A very exciting #VMUG, #VMUGDK Nordic conference is coming up!

This year we’re featuring a record number of community speakers, as well a sweet set of vRockstar speakers.

This VMUG will be my first as a newly appointed VMUG Leader, so very excited to bring you a very nice setup.

Once again we’ll be in the Nordisk Film Cinema at Fields, and feature multiple tracks running simultaneously. Reserve January 31.st 2019 for this event.

Besides the speakers quite a few vendors will also set up stands where you can hear about their products and they will most likely feature, different levels of swag you can bring home to the kids 🙂

You can register for the event at Eventbrite

For keynotes we’ve managed to get Joe Baguley, VP & CTO, EMEA to do the opening keynote. And the closing Keynote will be delived by Seth Shotak, Senior Astronomer SETI Institute

Among the community speakers, we have so far confirmed the following

  • Joerg Lew – Usability, Scalability, Reliability – Make Your Automation Production-ready
  • Michael Ryom – Getting started with NSX-T Data Center
  • Rasmus Haslund – Preparing for the VCP6.5-DCV certification exam
  • Anders Wickland – vSAN stretched cluster
  • Jacob styrup Bang – Aarhus University’s SDDC a year later
  • Christian Mohn / Eirik Vada – Software Defined Datacenters for Good — How we built an infrastucture for Mental Health Research
  • Mads Fog Albrechtslund – vRealize Orchestrator: Taming the beast and learn the basics without dying

Along side all the great community speakers, we’ve also managed to get a quite capable list of vRockstar speakers to participate. Just look at this lineup.

After all the sessions, there will be food and drinks and we will feature a still unknown movie and popcorn!

Hope to see many of you at the VMUG!

Next #VMugDK sold out in less than 8 hours – Add your name to the waiting list!

MV5BNDA5NDAzMzg1MF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwOTY2MjU2NzE@._V1_SY317_CR3,0,214,317_AL_So its that time of the year again, when the Danish VMug team will hold their VMug and a movie show. And once again it will be held in the Palads theatre in central Copenhagen. As i said its sold out, but do add your name to the waiting list, as usually a bigger theatre room can be provided if the sponsors see enough people on the waiting lists: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/vmug-palads-2016-tickets-20777698656

This years theme is costumer presentations and wow what a nice lineup, 4 community sessions and a community panel discussion as well.

We’ll start off with a 45 minute session from fellow bloggers Morten G. Johansen and Martin Therkelsen from Wolseley.

After a Sponsor session and lunch, will be back with Ibrar Ashraf from SamPension

Again a sponsor session and the Michael Munk will be on stage, and who can forget his ranting session on NSX at last years show. Surprisingly enough he’s again listed as Zitcom, wonder if  a new job change has been completed ?

The last community session will be from Jakob Hartmann from Frederiksberg Forsyning, who will enlighten us about his path to vSphere 6.0, touching on the possibilities and barriers he’s encountered along the way.

Something new this year will be a Q&A panel, guessing like we’ve seen at VMworld with ask the vExperts/Expert bloggers/Industry Giants sessions. Those are usually very fun to attend and you get to ask the questions you’ve been sitting with, to a panel of experts who has been around in the Virtual World. The panel will consist of:

Really looking forward to this session, and hope that you will come forward and ask some questions, otherwise it wont be as fun and enlightening as it could be.

After a sponsor give-away, we’ll be ready for the movie. Last year Liselotte surprised us all by starting with the first few minutes of 50 shades of grey, before switching the movie over to Kingsmen. This year the movie is Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

After the movie, there will be a #VBEERS please sign up if you plan to attend, so the VBEERS team can find a place that’s big enough for all of us.

Hope to see you all there!

VMUG in Copenhagen february 19th.

This years VMUG in a cinema is about NSX, and features sessions from customers that are using NSX and some that are contemplating it. VMUGdk has also scooped Martin Casado to come and speak. Martin is the co-founder of Nicera, the company that VMware bought to rename it to NSX.

I will try to give a recap of the day below.

First up was a customer session with Michael Munk Larsen and Thomas Raabo from Zitcom, talking about their transformation from “normal” networking to Software Defined Networking.

IMG_0675

A very honest accounting of their experiences with NSX and all the issues they have encountered working with the first versions of the product, and why they don’t run NSX yet. Ended up sounding a lot like an NSX bashing session, but they kept pointing out that all the nice things about NSX can you read on different blogs.

Next up we had a very enthusiastic presentation from Martin Casado,
Starting out by giving a background story on Network virtualization .

IMG_0676

Next moving on to showcasing different use cases for network virtualization: automation and micro segmentation.

IMG_0677

A very interesting session with good points about network virtualization, and very nice work by the VMUGdk team to get Martin to Denmark

The next speaker was Christer Swartz of Palo Alto Networks, formerly of Cisco and Netflix. Doing a presentation on Palo Altos views on NSX and on software defined networking. Talking about what Palo Altos firewall can do for you.

Also talking about Dynamic Address Groups, and how that works with NSX

IMG_0678

Making a point about having both the physical and virtual topology be both managed by Panorama, their management software, and them being aware of each other.

Not that big, a company in Denmark, but does seem to have some really nice features.

IMG_0679

The last session is a community session, by Stefan Pahrmann from Lego

IMG_0680

Talking about their reasons for buying NSX, and their plans to implement the software. Their main reasons are security concerns when expanding in both Asia and USA. Another big reason for their purchase was the automation part of NSX. Both very good reasons, and the much of the same reason I will consider an NSX installation

A very nicely done 5 slides presentation.

One of the points was stating that software was better than hardware always… Have to Quote Signoutdk on this one.

“I still prefer my LEGO to be hardware no matter what they say!”

After this there were a few price draws, and we finished off with watching the movie Kingsman, the secret service.

As a nice joke, Liselotte (VMUGDK leader), had the cinema start the movie 50 Shades of Grey instead, leaving 250 males bewildered 🙂

Thank you VMUGDK for a nice day.

Nordic #VMUG meeting – Nov 20th.

vmug

So we’re closing in, on the annual Nordic VMUG conference, which will be held at Bella Center Copenhagen again. For those of you that didn’t attend last year, the concept is like a mini VMworld, in the same venue that had VMworld in 2010 and 2011. Even if you did attend VMworld this is a good opportunity

There will be a small show floor, where vendors will showcase their products and you can get a good talk with them about their products. Often the vendors sends their technicians also, so you’re not stuck with the typical sales guys you always seem to get on the phone 🙂

There will be a number of different sessions, hopefully both community, meaning costumer cases, and professional sessions by VMware people or other Vendors that does something for the Virtualization world.

This years confirmed lineup so far include the following:

  • Opening Keynote by Joe Baguley, CTO of EMEA for VMware. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to Joe quite a few times, and been invited to a lunch where he talked about VMware and the future. Joe is a great speaker with some very nice ideas on where VMware is going, and this is something you should attend if possible.
  • Closing Keynote by Shawn Bass Sr. Director, Strategy & Planning, VMware End User Computing. Not someone I’ve met before and a new face at VMware, used to be at Citrix and Microsoft before.
  • Duncan Epping (VCDX007) is doing a session, dont know about what, but Duncan’s a superstar within the VMware community, and is always good to listen to.
  • Cormac Hogan is always a pleasure to listen to, I’m still amazed about how nice and non-hyped Cormac talks about storage, and i’m guessing we will hear about VVols from him.
  • Paudie O’Riordan, has been at VMUG’s in Denmark af few times, and usually has some very good horror tales from VMware support where the costumer has misconfigured this or that. A must see!
  • Frank Denneman of PernixData, will no doubt talk about FVP 2.0 the new software from PernixData, that among other things allows the use of Memory for storage acceleration.

Besides that I know they have been called for some customers to do a session, but I don’t know of any confirmed speakers. I myself was asked, but as I’m still struggling to make the time, had sadly to decline the opportunity to speak at this big event.

I’m still hoping to make it to Bella Center, as last year was a really nice VMUG conference. It’s not meant to be a standard VMUG, but more like a mini-VMworld. And as stated earlier, even if you did attend VMworld, I would still very much recommend coming to this one as well. Even if this could be your first VMUG, you should try to attend, and make new acquaintances and network, which will be very helpful in your daily job in virtualization.
